Cameroon presents multiple facets of tourism: hunting, safari, agro tourism, ecotourism, ethno-cultural tourism, seaside tourism, business and conference tourism, scientific tourism …All depends on the availability and the needs expressed by the visitors.

1 -ETHNO-CULTURAL TOURISM.  

     Cameroon: land of deep-rooted traditions

Itinerary: north, south and west of Cameroon      Time: 21Days 

Day 1: Arrival at Yaounde or Douala  international airport.

Welcome ceremony 

Day 2: Douala –Yaounde.

 Discovery of the town: its markets, its mixture of population and its seven hills. Night in the train 

Day 3: Ngaoundere:

Islamic capital of north Cameroon. Visit of the palace and the museum;Tello,Vina and Lancrenon waterfalls; traditional huts; Tison crater lake.

 

Day 4: Ngaoundere –Lagdo

Stop at Gouna ethnic market. Discover the Bororos land (nomad tribes) with their spectacular scarification.

 

Day 5: Lagdo-Garoua Guider –Rhumsiki

Visit Gorges of Kola at Guider, a beautiful mountain landscape. Along the road, you discover the wonders of the Mafas’ region; animist population of the far north of Cameroon. Rhumsiki town is a picturesque town with its old volcanic landscape.

 

Day 6: Rhumsiki-Koza-Djingliya-Mora-Waza

Visit of the animist populations of the region. Trekking in the valley. Visit of the handicraft centre at Djingliya. Visit of the traditional huts with straw.

 

Day 7: Waza-Mora-Oudjila-Maroua

Waza national park (the abundance of birds species makes the park a great reserve in Cameroon),Maroua picturesque market; Lamido palace at Mora. Visit the bi-centenary kingdom of king Mozogo with its 50 wives and at least 113 children.

 

 

Day 8: Maroua-Kousseri

Sultanate of Kousseri with the Kotoko and Sao art museum. The fort Fourreau monument situated at 100m from the sultanate: a  memory of the colonial period. King Rabbat of Morocco monument. The border of the river Logone with it traditional fishermen. The estuary of Logone and Chari.The Kousseri exotic market.

 

Day 9: Kousseri-Maroua-Garoua

Traks of dinausors at Bidzar,the superimposed stones at Motourwa,periodic markets.Visit of hippopotamus at Benoue river.

 

Day 10: Garoua-Ngaoundere

Market of Pitoa:one of the most important traditional market of the far north and the north province.This market is a mixture of cultures and populations coming from Tchad,Central –africa and Nigeria.night in the train.

 

Day 11: Yaounde –Bangoua-Bandjoun-Bafoussam

Visit the kingdom of Bangoua and Bandjoun.the west province is the centre of cultural tourism.The west province is the focal point of all excursions to the highlands.Visit of the chaftmen  quarter and the caves at Toungui

 

Day 12: Bafoussam-Didango

Visit the Bororos land at the heat of the west province .You could spend the night in the village with inhabitants

 

Day 13: Didango-Foumban

Visit the prestigious palace and museum.You could meet the sultan if you are lucky and watch traditional dances.Enjoy tradition and Bamouns’ art and culture.

 

Day 14: Foumban –Bamenda-Bafut

Stop at craftsmen village and observe their  methods of manufacturing artistic objects,sculptures,furniture,etc;dicover the seven stones site”Saba Mougouoh”where king Njoya stopped to rest while coming from Mantoum;”Mahap and Dahah”(the sacred huts) dates back more than 3 centuries entirely well constructed;it is a small museum containing objects which cut across a portion of bamoun history.After you enter the Anglophone part of the country ;apart from being the provincial capital of the north west province,Bamenda is a junction town.Discover bafut palace and museum;the palace that has been constructed about 100 years ago,still maintains its former relics.

 

Day 15: Bamenda-Sagba and its mountainous landscapes

Hike to Sagba hills;a real picturesque site with a rocky mountainous landscape.Discover nomad tribes and enjoy horse ridding with them.have a panoramic view of Ndop plain and Bamendjin dam.take the Bamessing pottery road. You could spend the night in a family.

 

Day 16: Bamenda –Bafoussam-Melong

Visit the Bafoussam art museum;the Bafoussam palace and sacred forest.Explore agrotourism with the visit of agro-industrial plantations.Visit the caplain flowers plantation.Discover goliath frogs at Loum

 

Day 17: Melong-Ekom-kam falls-Lokoundje river-Badgeli pygmies (south province)

Visit the Ekom –kam falls where the famous film Tarzan was made in 1980.Discover pineapple and paw-paw plantations along the roads. Stay with Badgeli or Bakola pygmies inside the equatorial forest. Pygmies are first inhabitants of the forest. They search for food in the nature. Camping in the equatorial forest-

 

Day 18: lokoundje river-fishermen village

Evening traditional dances. Enjoy the authenticity of pygmies lifestyles. Wondja is a Bantu village in the middle of the Lokoundje River and the Atlantic Ocean. Inhabitants of the area are fishermen. Make a canoe trip on the Lokoundje River. Trekking in the island.

 

Day 19: Londji-Kribi

Canoe ridding on the Atlantic Ocean. Visit Lobe falls; the unique place where the ocean and the river create a wonderful attraction. Discover the first Catholic Church in Cameroon built by Pallotins fathers in 1980.

 

 

 

 

Day 20: kribi

Swimming; amble along beaches; discover the German monuments(colonial sites).Fish market. The Lobe shrimps and prawns (Cray fish). Mboamanga beach is the new hot spot of the town. Cruises are permitted to do sportive fishing and sea hiking.

 

Day 21: Kribi-Douala/Yaounde

Visit of the town; handicraft market; departure ceremony; end of the tour

 

This itinerary is just an indication. 2-ECOTOURISM :

    an instrument to contribute to biodiversity conservation 

 

a) Dzanga-Sangha: domain of primates and elephants

Itinerary: Cameroon, Central African Republic (dzanga-sangha reserve)    Time: 14 Days

 

Day 1: Arrival at Yaoundé airport

 Welcome ceremony; installation at the hotel

 

Day 2: Douala-Yaounde-Bertoua

Enjoy the nature, enter in the equatorial forest and appreciate traditional plantations of cocoa and plantain all along the road.

 

Day 3: Bertoua-Yokadouma

Visit of Bantus and pygmies villages

 

Day 4: Yokadouma-Libongo-Bayanga (Central African Republic)

Make a canoe strip to cross Lindjombo River, boundary between Central African Republic and Cameroon. The environment and the beautiful landscape situated at the heart of the equatorial forest bring memories of the luxuriant Amazonian surroundings. Arrival at Dzanga-Sangha reserve.

 

Day 5: The special reserve of Dzangha-Sangha in central African republic

Observation of several species of animals: elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, bongos, buffalos, etc. ride in canoe through the Sangha River.

 

Day 6: Dzangha-Sangha reserve

Observation of wildlife: birds

 

Day 7: Dzangha-Sangha

Hike and discovery

 

Day 8: Dzangha Sangha reserve

Search for the rush leaves, lianas and other necessary items

for the construction of “Moungoulou”(pygmies traditional huts.

 

Day 9: Dzangha-Sangha reserve

Discovery of the baka’s tradititional hunting techniques.

 

Day 10: Dzangha Sangha reserve

Cultural night organised in the forest by pygmies. Collection of palm wine. Discover Baka‘s traditional dances. Cultural evening, dinner and night over with Bakas at the campsite.

 

Day 11: Bayanga-Lindjombo-Libongo-Yokadouma.

Discover the surrounding of the luxuriant equatorial forest with its vegetal species

 

Day 12: Yokadouma-Bertoua

Along the road, pygmies and Bantus villages offer a picturesque landscape

 

 

Day 13: Bertoua-Yaounde

Visit the town and the cathedral

 

Day 14: Yaounde

Visit the Yaoundé town surrounded by many hills. The diversity of populations leaving in Yaoundé transforms the town into a cultural crossroad

 

 

 

b)Excursion and discovery in Lomié town and Dja reserve

 Summary:                                                                                   

Discover Lomie, the old town. 

Visit   various remains at the colonial sites: hanging tree court; palm oil plantation and colonial sites. 

Visit the bats’ cave. Entire day in the north east of the Dja reserve. 

Visit the village of raffia, the six trunks palm tree (2 km from djoamiadjoh, biba II). 

Crossing the Myenne river, visit the Mwampo falls situated situated at 5 km from the village. 

Hike and discovery in the forest. Stay in the Bakas’ camps at Matisson (12 km from the reserve).Hike in company of the Bakas.

 

c) Lobéké: kingdom of gorillas

Itinerary: centre and east province of Cameroon      Time: 10 Days 

The Lobeke Park is located at the southwest of Yokadouma. 

It is one of the richest parks as concerns biological resources. 

The park shelters more than 50 species of mammals amongst which: elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees and bongos; more than 330 species birds, 122 birds of fish, 215 species of butterflies with endemic species. 

The Lobeke Park is one of the rare parks in Cameroon that guarantees animal observation.

 

 

 

d) The Korup national park

 It is the richest rainforest and the scientific research site in Cameroon and in Africa. It covers a surface area of 1260 km² and is situated between Mundemba and Eyumodjock. Korup is a magnificent humid forest with impressive trees over more than 500 years. It has over 620 vegetal species, 480 grass species which have been inventoried.161 mammals species,92 amphibians,82 reptiles,950 butterflies and more than 410 ornithological species.

Korup is a real ornithological paradise with many observation facilities. korup has many medicinal plants. There are many camps and footpaths in the park. Accessibility is easy and there exist many other tourist, ecotouristic and recreational activities. Many sites have been set up for the observation of animals in the park. The most important are: chimpanzees and elephants. You can watch picathartes at every moment. visit the Mana falls, the Rengo bats’ cave and the impressive lianas bridge.

Conservation actions in the park are supported by non-governmental organization (N G O)

4- SEA SIDE TOURISM

In addition to wonderful treasures which needless to recall are characterised by diversity. Cameroon can satisfy travellers coming to relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches. The 400 km of Atlantic coastal land are suitable for sunlight relaxation. The main attractions of Cameroon seaside tourism are picturesque bays, natural and sandy beaches, islands, mangroves, swamp vegetations and waterfalls.

 

5- BUSINESS TOURISM

Yaounde and Douala contribute to the rapid expansion of conference and business tourism thanks to their modern and prestigious infrastructures: conference centres, international airport, luxury hotels,etc .Yaoundé and Douala  host festivals and trade fairs. The international exhibition for enterprises organized every three years in Yaoundé brings people from around the world together for economical purposes. Thanks to the success of 2002, 2005and 2008 edition, Cameroon maintains its privileged status and its calling as an international venue for meeting.
